A facsimile of the manuscript about the astronomer As-Sufi The Book of Fixed Stars created by order of Mirzo Ulugbek was presented in Samarkand. The presentation took place as part of the opening ceremony of the 6th International Congress "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan - the Foundation of a New Renaissance."
The publication was presented by Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Board Chairman of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan, and Charlotte Kramer, President of the Austrian publishing house Mueller & Schindler.
Firdavs Abdukhalikov:
- The manuscript about the astronomer As-Sufi, commissioned by Mirzo Ulugbek, is now kept in the National Library in Paris. It took three years for the publishing house Mueller&Schindler to create a facsimile edition of the manuscript.
The gem of the book is the miniature depicting Mirzo Ulugbek in the form of the Cepheus constellation. The inscriptions in gold ink and other signs prove that the document belonged to Mirzo Ulugbek's library. Scientists believe that the Book of Fixed Stars was used by scientists when writing astronomical tables.
Charlotte Kramer:
- We are very proud that we have managed to bring Mirzo Ulugbek back home to Samarkand, where his observatory is located. We spent three years, but are very happy with the work done, as it is our mission is to recreate the masterpieces of Central Asia, scattered around the world.
