Islamosphere: The Islamic heritage of Uzbekistan is a cultural brand of the country St. Petersburg hosted the 2nd International Congress "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan: the way to dialogue between peoples and countries."

On the first day of the forum, six exhibitions dedicated to the cultural legacy of Uzbekistan were held, “Versiya” reports.

In the Hermitage and the Kunstkamera, the Russian Museum of Ethnography, the Museum of the History of Religion and the Russian National Library, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, medieval manuscripts, gifts of emirs from Bukhara, carpets and silk from the collections of St. Petersburg collections are collected.

Rare Islamic manuscripts published in the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections series were brought from Uzbekistan especially for the forum and presented at the Congress. Particular attention was paid to the so-called Katta Langar Quran belonged to Caliph Uthman, the third righteous Caliph of Islam. It was under Uthman ibn Affan that the collection of the written text of the Quran into a single book was completed.

“This manuscript matters as a relic of the Muslims of the world. But at the same time it is of great importance for science. Because thanks to such manuscripts, and they will change in the world, we can imagine the history of fixing the text of the Qur'an. This is the most important historical source for us,” says Yefim Rezvan, Deputy Director of the Kunstkameri.

In addition, the 13th volume of Architectural Epigraphy of Uzbekistan was presented. It is the collection of inscriptions from the walls of mosques, madrasahs and mausoleums. It took six years to compile a multi-volume, more than one and a half thousand epigraphic verses, edification and sayings are presented in the albums.

“These are monuments located in Uzbekistan from the 9th to the early 20th century, i.e., in the Islamic period. And the monuments contained inscriptions that were practically not read by anyone. They contain moral and humanistic meanings,” says Akbar Khakimov, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The main event of the Congress was a two-day media forum in the House of Scientists named after Maxim Gorky, in which about 200 people, including experts and representatives of the scientific community from Uzbekistan, Russia, Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Iran, France, and Turkey took part.

During the forum, the premieres of two dozen documentary films dedicated to the preservation of the historical heritage of Uzbekistan were held. This multimedia project “The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections” includes documentaries shot in museum collections this year.

“Today, Uzbekistan looks at the issues of cultural legacy in a completely new way. And the cultural legacy of Uzbekistan today is elevated to the rank of the brand of the country, the cultural brand of the country. And we treat our heritage today in a completely different way. And this congress is proof of our careful attitude,” explains the head of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections project Firdavs Abdukhalikov
