Scholars from around the world adopted an appeal to the President of Uzbekistan and established the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan.
Following the results of the Second International Congress “The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan: the way to dialogue between peoples and countries” held on June 6-8, 2018 in St. Petersburg, the participants adopted an open appeal to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in which they highly appreciated the attention he paid to the development of science and culture, the preservation of the cultural legacy of Uzbekistan, and expressed their readiness to fully support all the reforms carried out by the President in this area.
The World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan (hereinafter referred to as the World Society) established by the decision of the Congress will be an instrument of such support.
“We express confidence that this newly established international organization, which unites all those who cherish the history and culture of Uzbekistan, will become a reliable assistant in your tireless work to further study, preserve and popularize the cultural legacy of the ancient land of Uzbekistan,” the statement of foreign and domestic scholars and representatives of the media sphere says.
The establishment of the World Society will allow scholars, researchers, collectors, representatives of the mass media and simply connoisseurs of the cultural legacy of Uzbekistan to unite to actively interact and work for the benefit of preserving and popularizing the cultural legacy of Uzbekistan. The World Society will also be able to hold international events, whether it is exhibitions, presentations, cultural forums around the world, including in museums keeping objects and artifacts related to the cultural legacy of Uzbekistan.
As a result of the Second International Congress "The Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan: the way to dialogue between peoples and countries" in St. Petersburg, a resolution was adopted; it outlined the goals and objectives of the newly established society, elected members and the chairman of the academic council.
Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan Edvard Rtveladze was elected Chairman of the Academic Council of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan.
Such prominent foreign and domestic scholars as Irina Popova, Efim Rezvan, Akbar Khakimov, Shakir Pidaev, Alexander Naimark, Rustam Suleimanov and others became members of the Academic Council of the World Society.
The Board will assist in the implementation of the tasks of the Society and its scientific council. Firdavs Abdukhalikov, the author of the exclusive multimedia project "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections", Honored Journalist of Uzbekistan, was unanimously elected its chairman.
Such scholars and researchers as Pavel Lurje, Sergey Lapteff, Kamola Akilova, Krista Pikkat and others have been elected members of the Board.
Recall that for the first time this initiative was announced in Tashkent and Samarkand in May 2017 at the International Congress “The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan: the way to dialogue between peoples and countries.” The need to establish a World Society was discussed in the final declaration adopted by more than 300 participants of the congress.

On behalf of the participants of the Second International Congress "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan: a Way to Dialogue between Peoples and Countries", let us express our deep respect for your tireless work aimed at creating a new Uzbekistan. Today, during the days of the Second International Congress in St. Petersburg, we had the opportunity to get acquainted with the new results of your work on the fundamental reform of Uzbekistan and the creation of decent conditions for the development of fundamental science and culture. Your efforts aimed at preserving the rich cultural legacy are especially close to us the Uzbek people, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of world civilization. We are well aware of your concept of civilized Islam as a religion of goodness, peace and tolerance and we support you in your tireless work to implement it.
A significant achievement in the study and popularization of the invaluable spiritual wealth of the Uzbek people was the Cultural Legacy Heritage of Uzbekistan in the World Collections project supported by you, which provides for the collection, study and publication of art objects, manuscripts and documents related to the history of the peoples of Uzbekistan. Within the framework of the project, 15 albums have already been published and more than 20 documentaries have been shot. The project has united the efforts of the scientific community of Uzbekistan, where its own scientific school exists and is fruitfully developing, as well as the efforts of researchers from Russia, Great Britain, France, Germany, Czech Republic, the USA, Japan, Turkey and many other countries.
In May 2017, the First International Congress "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan: a Path to Dialogue between Peoples and Countries" was held in Tashkent and Samarkand, in which more than 300 scholars of the world took part. We are confident that this project will strengthen mutual understanding between peoples and countries, as well as enhance the cultural image of your country.
Today, an important result of the Second International Congress in St. Petersburg was the establishment of the World Society for the Preservation, Study and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan. We express confidence that this newly established international organization which unites all those who cherish the history and culture of Uzbekistan will become a reliable assistant in your tireless work to further popularize the cultural legacy of the ancient land of Uzbekistan.
