Currently, 829 objects of material and cultural heritage are under state protection in the Bukhara region.
Seven more cultural heritage sites in Bukhara will be nominated to the UNESCO World Heritage List, the press service of the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan reported.
These are the Chor-Bakr and Bahauddin Naqshbandi complexes, architectural objects — the minaret in Vobkent and the Chashma Ayub mausoleum, as well as the ancient archaeological sites of Payken, Varakhsha and Vardonze in the Bukhara region.
According to the press service, the regional Department of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Culture, the National Commission for UNESCO, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the participation of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies, are now preparing documents based on international criteria for the inclusion of the listed objects in the UNESCO World Heritage List along with the cross-border monuments "The Silk Road: Zaravshan — Karakum Corridor" (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan).
Currently, 829 objects of material and cultural heritage are under state protection in the Bukhara region. 287 of them are archaeological monuments, 507 architectural objects, 17 items of monumental art, and 18 places of interest.
Uzbekistan became a member of the specialized organization for Education, Science and Culture under UNESCO in 1993. The Convention on the Safeguarding of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage was ratified by the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 22, 1995.
Within the framework of the Convention, Ichan-Kala in Khiva, "Samarkand as the Intersection of Cultures" object, the historical centers of Bukhara and Shakhrisabz were included in the cultural heritage list, and the Chatkal biosphere in the natural heritage list.
