The V International Congress "Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan at the Present Stage" has started in Uzbekistan. It is held within the framework of the International Forum "Central Asia at the Crossroads of World Civilizations" under the auspices of UNESCO. The main event of the congress will be the presentation of 40 illustrated books-albums from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the World collections." Dozens of orientalists from different countries specializing in the study of the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan have prepared materials for new books.
“We are grateful to the government of Uzbekistan, which supports our project to preserve the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan. During the pandemic, we managed to establish close contact and fruitfully work with authors from Hungary, Russia, Great Britain, France and a number of other countries. The result of this work was the publication of an unprecedented number of unique books - forty. I would like to thank the authors for their tireless work and express condolences to the families of those who passed away at this difficult time for all of us,” said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Chairman of the Board of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan.
The Congress will open with a plenary session on the activities of the World Society. On the same day, representatives of museums and libraries from all over the world will be presented with 50 volumes of the albums "Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in world Collections"
“The implementation of the project “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the Collections of the World” is a completely unique event in the cultural and scientific community,” commented Alexander Sedov, General Director of the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow). “The project demonstrates the exclusivity of the cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan, its huge contribution to world culture, carries a large-scale educational and unifying mission, gathering people of different professions and nationalities around the project, actively expanding the geography of its activities.”
Then, breakout sessions will be held for two days. Scientists from different countries will present reports on current issues and problems of preserving the architectural, manuscript heritage of Uzbekistan. The meetings will be attended by the researcher of the State Hermitage Larisa Kulakova; Head of the Department of the Middle East of the State Hermitage Daria Vasilyeva; Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Russian Literature of Moscow State Pedagogical University Eleonora Shafranskaya; doctor of historical sciences, leading researcher of the Russian Ethnographic Museum Tatyana Emelianenko and other experts in the fields of museum work, science and art from Russia.
Thematic cultural events will also be held within the framework of the congress: the exhibition “Metaphysics of Contemplation. Based on the poetry of A. Navoi»; exposition of the State Museum of Applied Arts and History of Handicraft of Uzbekistan; exhibition of oriental miniatures at the Museum of Miniature Art. K. Behzad; photo exhibition of the archaeologist, researcher of the culture of Central Asia, Leon Barshchevsky; exposition "History of Uzbekistan in photographs - revealing the past"; presentation of the facsimile project "114 masterpieces of handwritten Korans in the collections of the world"; a virtual tour of the monuments of Shakhrisabz and Samarkand - and many other events.
