The World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan is preparing a colorful album dedicated to the unique man-made masterpieces of the Karakalpak people for publishing.
At the moment, the text and photo layout are being finalized.
The traditional art of the Karakalpaks is diverse and original. It is represented by highly artistic items that formed the everyday life of the Karakalpaks - various types of textiles, including garments decorated with intricate embroidery, leather and wood products. One of the peculiar features of the Karakalpak applied art is its ability to almost universally integrate its unique man-made works into a modern interior - they are in very organic harmony with the current decorative interior art. The old masters seem to have anticipated the demands of the aesthetics that are relevant today and, ahead of their time, solved tasks that are of interest to contemporary artists.
The authors of the album will demonstrate the inexhaustible variety of Karakalpak art from a private collection that has been collected for more than 20 years and includes over 300 artifacts, as well as some objects of applied art from the collection of the State Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan named after I.V. Savitsky.
The idea of creating the album belongs to Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Board Chairman of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan.
The curator of the album is Irina Bogoslovskaya, a well-known specialist in the art of the Karakalpak, candidate of art history.
Team of authors:
• Elmira Gyul and Zafara Aliyeva, Art Historians
• Tigran Mkrtychev, Director of the State Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan named after I.V. Savitsky.
The book-album will be presented at the 5th Anniversary Congress of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in September 2021.
