The lazgi dance has a rich history and is widely known and popular due to its fiery and very energetic nature.
The Khorezmian dance lazgi is included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as an element of the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov reports on his Facebook.
"The decision was made on December 12 in Bogota (Colombia) during the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage," the message says.
The delegation from Uzbekistan headed by the country's Ambassador to UNESCO Umid Shadiyev held a nomination presentation of lazgi.
"It was emphasized that Uzbekistan, as a country with rich history and priceless cultural heritage, can offer many more unique elements of the intangible cultural heritage of the Uzbek people for the UNESCO Representative List," the message reads.
The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage approved the inclusion of lazgi in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage on the basis of a broad consensus without a vote.
Thus, UNESCO undertakes to take the necessary measures to preserve, increase and popularize the Khorezmian dance along with other elements of Uzbek intangible culture that were previously included in the Representative List — "Shashmak" and "Cultural Space of the Baysun District" (2008), "Katta Ashula" (2009), "Askia" (2014), "Cultures and traditions of pilaf" and "Navruz" (2016).
It should be kept in mind that the lazgi dance has a rich history (its original elements appeared when man invented fire). In addition, it is widely known and popular due to its fiery and very energetic nature.
