Wood carving

All of them were accepted into the museum fund from the 1950s to 2020. These are fragments of architectural decor, for example, semicircular bars for the s ceiling, household items – closets, tables, chairs, screens, dower chests, beshiks, musical instruments, kalybs – carved seals for applying patterns on fabric, other household utensils – wooden dishes and spoons, spindles, combs, chakichi – a device for decorating cakes, rattles and more. The wood of walnut, plane tree, elm, willow was often used as a material.

The art of wood carving – duradgorlik, nazhorlik (carpentry) has long been developing in Uzbekistan and has reached a high level of skill. Kokand is rightfully considered one of the recognized centers of this craft. During the 1-st International Crafts Festival, the main criterion for granting Kokand the status of “World Craft City” was precisely the art of wood carving.

Most of the wood carvings in the museum‘s collection are associated with the name of the famous carver, hereditary master Kadyrzhan Khaidarov (1899 – 1903). Using the traditions of the Kokand style of carving, the master at the same time added many innovations into this type of craft. Representatives of Kadyrzhan Khaidarov‘s school – his grandchildren Mirzausmon, Mirzaunus, Khasanjon Umarov and their children; students: Hero of Uzbekistan Abdugani Abdullaev, Salimjon Ergashev, Mansur Jalolov, Nabijon Khushnazarov, Burkhon Abdullaev, Odil Jalolov, Rafik Makhmudov, Ibrahim Sodikov, Islam Karimov, Murod Abdullaev. Kadyrjan Khaidarov participated in the restoration of columns, ceilings, doors and gates of the Khudoyar Khan palace, prepared many samples of woodcarving art for the museum. One of them – a model of a summer terrace. We can also mention the national furniture created by the master and his students: a table, a set of chairs, a checkerboard (hexagonal chair), a bed; a set of writing utensils: pencil case, inkwell; wooden jug, vases, plates, lagans; elements of architectural decor: columns, beams, mukarnases, doors, and lattices.

Mavzu doirasida batafsil “O‘zbekiston madaniy merosi jahon to‘plamlarida” turkumidagi “Qo‘qon” davlat muzey-qo‘riqxonasi to‘plami” kitob-albomida (XLIII jild) tanishishingiz mumkin.
