In the VII - early VIII centuries Arabs invaded Central Asia. Artistic craft, which has received active development, takes the first place.

In connection with Islamization, there is a change in the artistic worldview, style and forms of art themselves. A new period is coming in the art of the Central Asian interfluve - Movarounnahr. Monumental painting and sculpture of previous centuries, starting from the VIII century, are gradually disappearing. Fine culture gives way to ornamental art, which becomes one of the dominants of Muslim aesthetics, defining the features of the style of artistic craft and the design of architectural structures. Over time, the ornamental pattern becomes dominant.

The world's richest collection of Afrasiab glazed ceramics is stored in the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve. Ceramics of the Afrasiab type is spreading throughout Central Asia. The main successes of Afrasib pottery production are associated with glaze, with the introduction of color and the development of pictorial principles for ornamenting vessels. The surfaces of ceramic products are covered with inscriptions - good wishes, applied by a special kind of kufi and naskh, stylized plant motifs, bizarre birds, fish, animals, sometimes folklore and mythological images. Plant shoots, flowers and fruits of pomegranate, tulips, roses and other flowers are most often found in Afrasiab ceramics. Often, the letters of epigraphic inscriptions, turn into a floral pattern as well as the tails and beaks of birds. Many products are dominated by geometric ornament in the form of braids, squares, triangles, which was associated with the active development of mathematical sciences during this period and the inclusion of ornament in architectural decoration. The decoration of products of this time is distinguished by the virtuosity of the execution of the drawing, grace and a subtle sense of color.
