Mathematician Shavkat Ayupov has been elected President of the Academy of Sciences.

Shavkat Ayupov was born in 1952. In 1974, he graduated from Tashkent State University and was a student of academician T.A. Sarymsakov.
In 1977, he earned the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and in 1983, he received the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
Ayupov's main scientific works are related to functional analysis and the theory of operator algebras, which is one of the modern fields in this area. He conducted significant scientific research in the field of algebra.
In 2021, he was awarded the title of "Hero of Uzbekistan." He is also a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
The previous head of the Academy of Sciences, Bekhzod Yuldashev, passed away in August.
