What is special about the "Bibliotheque Orientale" from the collection of the National Library of Uzbekistan?

"Bibliotheque orientale" (Oriental Library or Oriental Encyclopedia) is one of the oldest books in our collection.

It was compiled by the famous French orientalist Bartholomew Herbelot. It was published in French in Paris in 1647. The edition contains about 100 articles about great scientists, poets, and statesmen who lived and worked in Central Asia. On page 661 of the book, there is brief information about the great Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi. Pages 877-888 are dedicated to Amir Timur and the Timurids.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The Manuscript and Book Heritage of the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi" (Volume XLI) in the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".

The main sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
