In many areas of Surkhandarya region, piltaduzi skullcaps are sewn. The rosette on these skullcaps usually has the appearance of a star with pointed rays. The Shakhrisabz round carpet skullcap gilam duppi is unique. The Baysun skullcap is particular interesting in this respect. A large, somewhat angular ornament, with bright, sonorous combinations of colors, gives the Baysun skullcaps a unique charm. A peculiar combination of northern restraint and southern striving for lush, bright ornaments and forms are Khorezm headwear tayha, tahya, chumakli takhya, kush. The Karakalpak skullcaps – takyya, tokyma takyya, makal takyya – have a dome-shaped form and are equipped with a wide band In total, there are about 300 skullcaps in the collection of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan.

The shape, colour and ornament of the skullcap reflect the peculiarities of the way of life of the population of a particular area. There are six main groups of skullcaps: Tashkent, Fergana, Samarkand, Bukhara, Kashkadarya-Surkhandarya and Khorezm-Karakalpak.
