There are six main groups of skullcaps: Tashkent, Fergana, Samarkand, Bukhara, Kashkadarya-Surkhandarya and Khorezm-Karakalpak.
Bukhara gold embroidery skullcaps are especially popular. For their production only smooth velvet of various colours is used. When embroidering, Bukhara embroiderers use mainly floral motifs: bodom (almond), turunj (sour orange), rosettes, palmettes, and geometrical – circles, lozenges and others. The subtle colour combinations of blue, gray, and crimson give a special pattern to the Bukhara embroidery.
You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The Collection of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan" (Volume XXVII) in the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".
The main sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
