There are six main groups of skullcaps: Tashkent, Fergana, Samarkand, Bukhara, Kashkadarya-Surkhandarya and Khorezm-Karakalpak.
In the patterns of the Samarkand skullcaps, straight lines or multi-petal rosettes dominate (oftorblast – sunflower, kuchkorok – ram’s horn). Many types of Samarkand skullcaps are made in piltaduzi technique.
Urgut skullcap is a kind of Samarkand kalpok. It is distinguished by a wide band and a small flat top. The pattern of Urgut skullcap is highly stylized.
You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The Collection of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan" (Volume XXVII) in the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".
