Geometric Motifs in the Decoration of Skullcaps

Geometric Motifs in the Decoration of Skullcaps

The ornaments on skullcaps demonstrate the amazing skill of embroiderers, national identity, convey the spirit of the people, love of life and bright colors of nature, the desire to embody in color the images of the surrounding world as they are seen in the poetic tradition.

Plant, zoomorphic, geometric, and epigraphic ornaments are used in the decoration of skullcaps. Geometric motifs are closely connected to agricultural cults. The names of many skullcaps correspond to the patterns that adorn them: chorgu, bodomcha, atirgul, kapalak, tovus, okpar, pahta, sadbarg, gulibarg, gulihaftarb, gulbodom, guligunch, majnutol, kyrkaya, kurbaka nusha, bahor, Navruz...

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The Collection of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan" (Part 2, Volume XXVII) in the series "Сultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
