Kamal ud-din Behzad's miniatures in the world collections

During his long and eventful life, Kamal ud-din Behzad collected a vast artistic heritage.

However, it continues to be a challenge for researchers, since there are only a few manuscripts where miniatures are reliably painted by the great master’s hand. These works include:

The Bustan by Saadi. 1488 – 1489 (storing place is the General Egyptian Book Organization, Cairo, Adab Farsi, 908),

The Mantiq al-Tair (Language of the Birds) by Farid ud-Din Attar. 1486 (storing place is Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fletcher Fund, New York,

The Khamsa (Five Poems) by Nizami copied in 1495 – 1496 (storing place is: the British Museum (Add. 25900), London),

Hamse (Five Poems) by Nizami, the list dated 1442, but illustrated in the 1490s (storing place is the British Museum (Add. 25900), London).

Unfortunately, there is no published comprehensive research into the history of Behzad's works or miniatures attributed to him kept in various collections across the world.

The team of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections project has done painstaking work to establish contacts with the above-listed institutions in order to obtain images of miniatures for publication and reveal the creative activity and personality of this outstanding artist.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The legacy of Kamal ud-din Behzad in the World Collections" (L volume) in the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".

The main sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
