The homeland of velvet skullcaps

HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

The homeland of velvet skullcaps

The shape, color, and ornamentation of a skullcap reflect the characteristics of the way of life of the population in a particular area.

There are six main groups of skullcaps: Tashkent, Ferghana, Samarkand, Bukhara, Kashkadarya-Surkhandarya, and Khorezm-Karakalpak.

A skullcap embroidered with a cross became particularly popular in Tashkent. The main element of the pattern in it is a rose branch, embroidered with dark red silk in combination with deep pink. The background is most often white. Tashkent festive skullcaps with a complex continuous pattern embroidered with the smallest "chakmatur" stitches are also unique. In addition, Tashkent is the homeland of several varieties of velvet skullcaps.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The Collection of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan" (Volume XXVII) in the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".

The main sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
