He studied the books of ancient Greek, Arabic, Persian and Indian scholars, as well as the works of his compatriots such as Ahmad Fergani, Muhammad Khwarizmi, Abu Nasr Farabi and Abu Bakr ar-Razi, applying a creative approach to them.
His books and letters attest to his deep acquaintance with the works of ancient Greek scholars such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Thales, Heraclitus, Pythagoras, Hippocrates and Galen. Drawing on this spiritual legacy, he wrote his great works on philosophy, medicine and natural sciences, such as "Kitab ash-Shifa" ("Book of Healing"), "al-Qanun fi-t-tob" ("Canon of Medicine"), "Kitab an-Najat" ("Book of Salvation") and "Donishnoma" ("Book of Knowledge").
