The scholar became famous for his works on medicine, philosophy, astronomy and natural science. He was the first to suggest the existence of viruses, writing that diseases are transmitted using the smallest substances. One of his main works, The Canon of Medicine, was the main textbook for students studying medicine at European universities for five centuries. An excerpt from The Canon, copied for the Ottoman ruler Mehmed II, is included in this volume. The book-album consists of two parts. The first part is dedicated to the life and scientific work of Avicenna. The second part presents manuscripts of his works stored in libraries and museums in Turkey. All the works are classified into biographical, medical, philosophical, logical, theological, literary, Sufi, ethical and interpretations of the Quran. For centuries, famous scholars and healers from different regions of the Muslim East wrote commentaries on the works of Ibn Sina, created their abridged versions. Later, numerous comments were made on these abridged versions. These works – comments, abridged versions and comments on them – are also included in the book-album.
