The purpose of the kiymeshek was to hide the hair of married women, because it was believed among Karakalpaks that through the hair the woman could be hurt. In general, this type of clothing included good wishes to a young woman and to continue the family as well as the protection from evil forces. The kiymeshek was sewn and embroidered by the bride herself. The kiymeshek was supposed to be worn as long as possible after the wedding.
