One of the prominent Tashkent ceramists was the people’s artist of Uzbekistan Mukhitdin Karimovich Rakhimov (1903 – 1985), who deeply studied the traditions of ceramics of Uzbekistan.

He managed to revive not only ornamental motifs, but also the compositions of dyes used in the pottery art of the 10th – 12th centuries. Recognition of Mukhitdin Rakhimov’s high merits is the fact that Tashkent Art Ceramic Plant was named after him.

M. K. Rakhimov’s work is successfully continued nowadays by his son Akbar, Honored artist of Uzbekistan and his grandson Alisher. Their works and careful attitude to the traditions of ancient ceramic art win all hearts. They revived the style of kashgari, known in Tashkent from of old. In 1994, in memory of M. K. Rakhimov, the Memorial House-Museum was established, in which a pottery workshop plays a special place, as well as personal belongings, books and works of the great master. Works by Akbar and Alisher Rakhimov are also collected in the museum.

In 2005, the first ceramics school “Usto – shogird” was opened in Tashkent on the basis of the Rakhimovs ceramic workshop, supported by the UNESCO Office in Tashkent. A huge work to revive, preserve, develop and promote traditional ceramics of Uzbekistan is ongoing in the school.
