The Mission of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) took place from 21 May to 1 June 2025.
The IAC provides expert advice and support to local, regional, and national authorities of Uzbekistan to safeguard its World Heritage properties and broader cultural heritage.
The mission programme included field visits to cultural site in Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya region, as well as to World Heritage properties such as Samarkand, Shakhrisabz and Itchan Kala in Khiva. The mission also featured working sessions, a capacity-building workshop and the official fourth meeting of the Committee. During the visit, IAC members explored key cultural sites and historical urban landscapes, held consultations with local authorities and national experts, and discussed the challenges and opportunities of preserving Uzbekistan's unique cultural heritage within the framework of sustainable development.
