The UNESCO Director General noted Uzbekistan's progress in preserving cultural heritage.
In Samarkand, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay. This is reported by the press service of Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Mirziyoyev and Azoulay discussed the further development of partnership and the implementation of agreements, including those reached following the results of the regular session of the World Heritage Committee.
The parties touched upon the issue of expanding the network of UNESCO departments in Uzbekistan. In particular, they discussed the creation of departments in the leading universities of the republic, such as the Department of Comparative Study of World Religions, Department of Water Diplomacy, Water Resources Management and Environmental Protection and Department of Cultural Tourism.
In addition, the participants of the meeting considered the prospects for cooperation in the fields of culture, education and science, gender policy, as well as nature conservation, including overcoming the consequences of the Aral Sea disaster.
