Frederick Starr is Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute. He is a recognized expert in the field of ethnography and anthropology of the peoples of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
Starr received his education in the United States, where he earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Southern California and a doctorate in Central Asian ethnography from New York University. For many years he has held various professorial positions at universities in the US and abroad, teaching courses in anthropology, ethnography and cultural anthropology.
In 1993, Starr founded the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute in Washington, D.C., which has become an important center for research on the ethnography and anthropology of the peoples of Central Asia and the Caucasus. He is also the author of many academic articles and books on the ethnography, history and culture of the peoples of this region.
