Kukrak-burma – a fashion trend of the 1890s

In the 1890s, fashion welcomed dresses with a ruffled yoke, kukrak burma, that were particularly popular and gradually started to be associated with the national costume.

Dresses were made from cotton fabrics (kalami, beyaz), hosa that was as thin as muslin, silk fabrics kalgai, atlas, adras as well as factory-made velvet, brocade a nd silks imported from Russia, Britain, France, India, Turkey and China.
