Silver of the Khiva Khan discovered in the State Museum of Turkmenistan

According to the director of the State Museum of Turkmenistan, Meretgeldy Charyev, a diverse collection of jewelry made of silver plated with gold, which represents a complete set of women’s jewelry from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is kept in the museum’s funds.

The presentation of the collection took place within the framework of the International Conference “Discovering New Facets of Heritage: Uzbek Collections in the World’s Collections” of the VII International Congress of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan.

The items in the collection are distinguished by their richness of shapes, numerous pendants, inlays and the finest filigree.

According to the research, the items come from the treasury of the Khiva Khan, and the collection of Khorezm products itself entered the funds of the State Museum of Turkmenistan on September 20, 1928. These items, by decision of the government, were distributed among the national republics and sent from Tashkent in a government carriage.

The collection includes forehead decorations “manglai-duzi, bosh-duzi”, various amulets and much more.

“We hope that the publication of the collection in the series “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan” will help us understand the attribution of some jewelry, which is still little studied, and we will have a more complete understanding of the jewelry art of Khorezm,” noted M. Chariev.
