One of the unique exhibits at the State Museum of the History of Religion in Saint Petersburg is the Quran in the form of a shirt worn by a Sufi mentor – murshid.
It is made of white cotton. Similar talisman shirts in the Middle Ages were worn under chain mail as the "garment of God-fearing". Their surface was completely covered with writings (Quranic texts, in whole or in part, devotional formulas, magic squares, Shiite formulas, prayers and incantations).
The entire surface of the item from the State Museum of the History of Religion is covered with a calligraphic text in Arabic. Much of the text consists of epithets and the names of Allah (al-asma al-husna, 99 names of Allah), basmala, shahada, ayats from the Quran. The ornamented droplets on the shoulders contain words-incantations: "Allah!", "Messenger Muhammad!", "Glorious!".
Another rare artifact in the museum collection is the sacred hair of the Prophet Muhammad in a glass case – mui-mubadan.
More unique exhibits can be found in the book-album Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the Collections of the State Museum of the History of Religion (Saint Petersburg).
The general sponsor of the project "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections" is the oilfield services company Eriell Group.
