Urol Tansykbayev is an artist from Uzbekistan, of Kazakh origin. He was born on January 14, 1904, in the city of Tashkent. Looking at the artist's creative heritage, we see that he created significant works from various angles - first of all, not only as an artist, but also as a graphic artist and theater decorator.
Ural Tansykbayev arrived in Almaty in 1938. The main reason for the trip was the invitation to participate in the design of the ballet "Kalkaman and Mamir", which was considered the artist's first experience in the field of decorative painting of the theater. The play was performed at the State Opera and Ballet Theater. The work on the first national ballet brought together prominent figures from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia. The composer of the music was the Leningrad composer Vasily Vasilyevich Velikanov (1898 - 1969).
Mukhtar Auezov (1897-1961), the author of the libretto based on Shakarim Khudoyberdiyev's poem of the same name, and Leonid Alekseyevich Zhukov (1890-1951), who worked at the Bolshoi Theatre of the USSR, were the directors of dance staging. The main character - Mamir - was played by the first swallow dancer of Kazakh ballet, People's Artist of Kazakhstan Shara Zhiyenkulova and B. Saifutdinova. G. Ismailov and L. Zhukov performed in the role of Kalkaman.
The premiere took place on July 24, 1938. Three sketches made using the gouache technique were purchased directly from the author in 1939.

According to contemporaries, Ural Tansykbayev, through the ethnographic originality of national costumes in the stage performances and the unique symbols of nature accompanying all the scenes of the play, managed to show true Kazakhstan.
Thus, O'. Tansykbayev's personality as a theater artist also found its place in the collection, emphasizing the multifaceted nature of his talent.
