In what fields were the types of letters in the Arabic script used?

In ancient times, each type of script in Arabic script was used in special places.

For example, the Kufic script was used for ornamental decoration, the Naskh script for copying book texts, the Suls script for inscribing inscriptions and panels on the facades of architectural structures, the Tavqi' script for signing, and the Rika' script for writing letters. Each of these types of writing, in turn, was written in thin - khafiy and thick - jaliy pencils.

The Nasta'liq script was widely used in our country, mainly in writing literary and historical works written in Persian and Turkic languages, and many books were written in it. In subsequent centuries, each text in our country was mainly copied in three types of script: verses and hadiths - naskh, simple texts - nasta'liq, and chapter and section titles - suls script.

The history of the art of calligraphy of Central Asia, which has gone through several stages of development, can be divided into two main periods:

1. The period from the Arab conquest until the Timurids came to power (from the 8th century to the 70s of the 14th century);

2. From the beginning of Timurid rule until the 1920s.

Each of these two periods, in turn, can be divided into several stages. In the first period of the history of the development of the art of calligraphy of Central Asia, mainly in the 7th-10th centuries, the school of calligraphy of Maverannahr was created in the central cities of the Arab Caliphate - Mecca, Kufa, and Basra, and later, using the types of calligraphy that spread to other regions of the Caliphate, works in Arabic, Persian, and Turkic languages were written. Ahmad ibn Umar Ash'as Abu Bakr Samarkandi (11th century), Ahmad Tabib Shah Mawarannahr (died 1215), Ali Banokati (13th century), Jamshid Shoshi (14th century), and many other calligraphers gained fame as representatives of this school.
