The most favorite jewelry of brides in Samarkand and Tashkent

The origins of jewelry in Uzbekistan are lost in the depths of millennia. In the 19th century, the largest centers of this craft were Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, Karshi, and Kokand. Each center had its own shapes and decorations.

The most favorite adornment of Samarkand and Tashkent brides was the gilded openwork tillakosh diadem – gold eyebrows with inserts of turquoise and colored glass, decorated with figured pendants at the bottom. One of them is on display at the Museum. The Bukhara version of the diadem – the boloabru forehead adornment – also has the shape of eyebrows converging on the bridge of the nose, with a large red stone in the center. The top was decorated with turquoise inserts, the bottom had pendants made of glass colored, pearl beads and silver leaves.
