From Baker to Blacksmith... Or, People Captured in Photographs

HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

From Baker to Blacksmith... Or, People Captured in Photographs

The everyday culture of the peoples of Central Asia held a special fascination for photographers of the past.

The occupations, way of life, customs and traditions of the local population – everything was unusual for Europeans in this exotic region, which they only began to explore in the last decades of the 19th century. With the development of photographic art, ethnographic science gained an additional opportunity to record various phenomena of traditional domestic culture.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album “Uzbekistan in historic photographs of the 19th - early 20th centuries in the collections of Russian archives” (Volume XXXVII) in the series “Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan”.

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
