The king to whom the Divs obeyed

The king to whom the Divs obeyed

Abu'l-Qasim Firdowsi's "Shahnama" is one of the most renowned epic works of Persian literature.

A manuscript of "Shahnamа" is kept in the Russian National Library. It contains the story of Jamshid, who is also known as Yima in the Avesta. It is mentioned that Jamshid ruled for 700 years. His reign was a "golden age": the king taught people various crafts, divided them into social classes, and not only humans but also divs submitted to him. This brought peace and prosperity to the land:

The epoch tasted repose thanks to justice, the divs, the birds and the peri submitted to him.

However, at the end of his reign, Jamshid became proud enough to declare himself a god. Because of this, he lost the divine grace and was defeated by Zahhak.
