An Architectural Monument in Shahrisabz Displaying the Name of the Prophet

The corner columns flanking the portal pylons of the "Kok Gumbaz" mosque, the main monument of the "Dar ut-tilavat" complex in Shahrisabz, are decorated with a pattern that combines various geometric figures. The diverse color scheme – ultramarine background, black, yellow, and turquoise of the patterns – harmonizes beautifully with the overall pattern, reminiscent of embroidery. Although here too we see traces of unsuccessful restoration. Rectangular cartouches with black backgrounds are inscribed into the pattern, within which "Muhammad" is repeated twice.
