"Even if there's only one woman left on earth, a jeweler will still have work to do"

HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

"Even if there's only one woman left on earth, a jeweler will still have work to do"

The manufacture of art products from metal is one of the most ancient types of craft and applied art, second only to ceramics.

This craft centuries-old tradition has long developed in a variety of local schools and centers in the territory of Uzbekistan. Most of the Museum’s collection of art metal is items dating from the late 19th – mid-20th centuries.

The museum exposition also presents traditional jewelry made in Tashkent, Bukhara, Khorezm and Karakalpakstan in the 19th – early 20th centuries. The old masters-jewelers claim that as long as there is at least one woman on earth, the jeweler’s business will not disappear. The origins of jewelry in Uzbekistan are lost in the depths of millennia. In the 19th century, the largest centers of this craft were Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, Karshi, and Kokand. Each center had its own shapes and decorations.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "The Collection of the State Museum of Applied Art and Handicraft’s History of Uzbekistan" (XXXIX volume) from the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".

The main sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
