Photos of Tashkent

Speaking of the appearance of cities and architectural monuments, it is impossible not to recall photographs of Tashkent.

At that time, that is, when these photographs were taken, it was difficult to imagine that decades later, these areas located on the periphery of ancient Central Asian cities would not only be incorporated into their boundaries but also become their centers, and buildings of European architecture would stand side by side with structures of typically Eastern construction. Over the past century, the appearance of not only the "native" but also the "Russian" parts of the cities has changed, but those buildings that have survived, like the medieval structures, represent monuments of history and architecture of Uzbekistan.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album “Uzbekistan in historic photographs of the 19th - early 20th centuries in the collections of Russian archives” (Volume XXXVII) in the series “Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan”.

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
