Later the term began to be applied to the descendants of the Prophet. Then its other synonyms appeared - sharif, ahl-i bayt/ahl al-bayt, aulad ar-rasul, naqib, mir, amir, sayids, etc. The vast majority of sayyid genealogies are traced back to the grandson of the Prophet - Husayn b. ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (626-680). Hence, the most common generalized title of S. clans in late medieval Central Asia is Husayniyya.
