A rich variety of Karakalpak women's headdresses

HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

A rich variety of Karakalpak women's headdresses

The headwear of women was diverse and informative.

It included tahia, kasava, turmi, saukele, kiymeshek and tobelik. Girls and teens wore a headdress tahia, in the form of a scullcap. Depending on the jewelry, the tahia had different names: marjan-tahia decorated with coral; tobelik or kupeli-tahia with a column on the top; popekli tahia with pompons, and from the position of the pompon it could be learnt if it was a betrothed girl (right) or not yet (left); tozeu-tahia with a variety of jewelry.

You will find more examples of national Uzbek clothes in the book-album "Traditional Uzbek costume on materials of museum and private collections of Uzbekistan (Part 2)" (volume XLIX) from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
