How did the shapan of Karakalpak women differ from that of men?

The outerwear of women was a throw-open robe shapan similar to men’s one, but embroidered in bright silk or semi-silk fabrics of Bukhara, Khorezm, or Russian production.

The shapan of women was very similar to the Khorezm in proportions and the slim silhouette. It also had a small vertical stitch, giving slimness to a woman's figure.

You will find more examples of national Uzbek clothes in the book-album "Traditional Uzbek costume on materials of museum and private collections of Uzbekistan (Part 2)" (volume XLIX) from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
