Kok keilek – Karakalpak wedding dress

Special women’s dresses were the kok keilek, antique wedding dress – top skill of Karakalpak embroiderers.

It was made of blue homespun fabric. The entire front part of the dress was covered with red, yellow and green silk threads, embroidery crossing were a very fine work. 

Location of embroidered patterns, including the encoded information of a women’s tribe and the history of her origin, wishes a happy future and magic spells that protected against the evil eye, gave the dress a sacred meaning.
