Do you know who copied "Mi‘raj-nama"?

The work "Mi‘raj-nama," describing the Miraj incident, holds significant importance in classical Eastern literature.

Even the Kings of France showed great interest in this work. This manuscript is of the highest importance for our knowledge about ancient Turkish literature and civilisation. Under the same binding, two texts are reunited, the Mi‘raj-nama and another text in Uighur script, the Turkish translation of the Tazkirat al-awliya of Farid al-Din ‘Attar.

It seems that the both texts were copied around 1430 -1440 by the same Haru Malik Bakhshi, i.e. Malik Bakshi from Herat, probably member of the Turkic divan of the Timurid administration. The volume, after the death of Colbert, also entered the Library of the Kings in 1732 and is now kept under the shelfmark Supplément turc 190.

You can learn more about the topic in the book-album "Illustrated manuscripts from Mawarannahr in the collections of France" (Volume XXIX) in the series "The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan".

The main sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
