HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

What was a shekpen robe?

Shekpen is the ancient Karakalpak robe.

It was made from fine camel-wool of natural light-sand color, sides and flaps were trimmed at the edges of black or red knitted lace. Instead of the gusset under armpits left horizontal slits with trimmed border.

The shekpen was much wider than the other robes, as it was put on in winter or in rainy days over other clothing. Camel wool remarkably keeps warm and did not get wet. Basically, the shekpen was worn by wealthy Karakalpaks.

You will find more examples of national Uzbek clothes in the book-album "Traditional Uzbek costume on materials of museum and private collections of Uzbekistan (Part 2)" (volume XLIX) from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".
