What headwear did women in Surkhandarya prefer?

Women's headdresses in Surkhandarya differ depending on age, social and tribal affiliation.

Basically, girls and young women of the valley wore hats like skullcaps and various shawls of bright colors in small sizes, which were tied on their foreheads over the cap.

Women wear large headscarves over a kiigich hat, while the elderly wear large white headscarves, tying them with a small headscarf on top. Kungrad women with middle-aged children and the elderly wore a peculiar turban-shaped headdress bosh (literally - head) of a complex design, which consisted of several parts. It looked like a tall cylinder, strongly expanding upward.

You will find more examples of national Uzbek clothes in the book-album "Traditional Uzbek costume on materials of museum and private collections of Uzbekistan (Part 2)" (volume XLIX) from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
