HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

What fabrics were used to make men's clothing in Surkhandarya?

The people used primarily various types of alacha to make men’s clothes.

Striped alacha was used to produce men’s robes and shirts; janda, a locally produced high-quality striped cotton fabric, was used for outer robes. Along with locally made fabrics, clothing makers relied on fabrics from other regions such as Bukhara and Karshi, especially to make woman’s costumes. In the second half of the 19th c entury, Kashgar fabrics and English calico appeared in the region.

You will find more examples of national Uzbek clothes in the book-album "Traditional Uzbek costume on materials of museum and private collections of Uzbekistan (Part 2)" (volume XLIX) from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
