HOW TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD SOCIETY?

Collection of countries of the foreign East in the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan

In these years, the Museum paid special attention to the art of the foreign East in connection with the expansion of international relations.

The collections of Chinese and Japanese arts significantly increased. In 1957, the Indian collection alone, which initially had only 35 exhibits, gained 550 items of modern Indian masters of that time. In the same year, the Museum was given carved artistic Burmese furniture from the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In 1960, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea handed over to the Museum 92 art objects made by masters of modern Korean art. Speaking about the art of the foreign East, it is necessary to remember the name of Maria Ivanovna Molozhatova, who lived in China for a long time, worked as a researcher at the Shanghai Museum, and knew the Chinese language brilliantly. Returning to her homeland, she settled in Tashkent, worked in a museum for a long time, and gave lectures on the history and culture of China.

You can learn more about this topic in the book-album “The Collection of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan”  (Volume XIII) from the series “Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections”.
