How were women's costumes in Khorezm different from others?

The woman's costume of Uzbek women of Khorezm, in contrast to the male one, simple and modest, leaves an impression of extraordinary sophistication created by a tight-fitting slender silhouette achieved due to the vertical stitching of the top dressing gowns along the entire length, abundance and originality of jewelry.

The costumes of women of Khorezm differ from the clothes of women in other regions of Uzbekistan in the shape of headdresses that have preserved ancient features, in the color range, in which all shades of red prevail – from pale pink and bright red, to dark cherry or burgundy lilac with lilac or blue shade, as well as the lack of embroidery in the decor.

The clothes of women in the southern and northern regions of the oasis differed in details. The set of clothes consisted of a guinak undershirt-dress and ishton pants; outerwear elak (yalak) or misak (in the south), chapan (in the north), quilted on a thin layer of cotton wool; chapan quilted with embossed stitch; head capes burqa (in the south) and jegda (in the north), takhia for girls and young women, lachak (in the north) and bosh level (in the south), makhsa shoes, kavush.

You will find more examples of national Uzbek clothes in the book-album "Traditional Uzbek costume on materials of museum and private collections of Uzbekistan (Part 2)" (volume XLIX) from the series "Cultural legacy of Uzbekistan in the world collections".

The general sponsor of the project is the oilfield services company Eriell-Group.
