Upon his arrival in Uzbekistan on a working visit, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, together with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited the Bahauddin Naqshband Mausoleum.
Located 12 kilometers from ancient Bukhara, the complex is one of the most important Muslim shrines. It is the burial place of the great 14th-century theologian Bahauddin Naqshband, founder of the Naqshbandi Sufi order. Formed over the centuries, the ensemble today includes a mausoleum, a khanqah built by Abdulaziz Khan for pilgrims, two mosques, a necropolis—the burial place of emirs from the Shaybanid, Ashtarkhanid, and Manghit dynasties—as well as a museum dedicated to the history of Sufism.
At the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, the complex has undergone further improvements, and its historical appearance has been restored. In particular, the historic passage from the Toki Miyona gate to the mausoleum has been restored. Gardens have been laid out on both sides of the Toki Miyona gate. A museum and ablution facilities have been built. The madrasah erected here by Doniyolbiy, the ruler of the Bukhara Khanate from the Manghit dynasty, is currently being restored.
