RISHTAN CERAMICS

Description

Rishtan Ceramics When we talk about one of the most striking and ancient crafts of Uzbekistan - pottery, we put Rishtan in the first place. The city, located in the heart of the Ferghana Valley, has become a true ceramic capital not only of our country, but of the whole of Central Asia. Here, in Rishtan, an amazing profession is passed down from generation to generation through the male line - the ability to create magnificent painted dishes, worthy of the world's best museums, from a piece of ordinary raw clay. In the rich palette of Uzbek ceramics, Rishtan is distinguished by its heavenly color and flying brush painting, with its symbols of fertility, hospitality and magical protection. This is not just a household item, but always high art multiplied by magic. For many centuries, Rishtan ceramics experienced periods of ups and downs. Today it is a dynamically developing center overcoming the challenges of the time. In the early 2021, an important event took place in Rishtan - the official opening of the International Pottery Center, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The establishment of the center was evidence of the great attention that the country's leadership pays to support traditional crafts. Masters are sure that the center will give them confidence in the preservation of the school, its further successful development. The best samples of Rishtan ceramics from various museum and private collections are presented in this album in order to help the craftsmen to keep that high level that has been characteristic of this center from century to century. Author of the Masterpieces of Art of Uzbekistan series, author of the opening speech: Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Board Chairman of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan, author and manager of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections project. Text by Elmira Gyul (Institute of Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, academic coordinator of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections project, Uzbekistan), Lyudmila Kodzaeva (Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts, Uzbekistan), Ekaterina Ermakova (State Museum of the Oriental Art, Russia).
