COLLECTION OF THE STATE MUSEUM OF ARTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF KARAKALPAKSTAN NAMED AFTER I.V. SAVITSKIY
Description
The State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I. V. Savitsky occupies a special place in the cultural space of Uzbekistan. Thanks to its unique collection, it is known worldwide as the "Louvre in the Desert". This name is associated with a collection of paintings known in the history of art as Turkestan avant-garde. These are early works by famous artists from Uzbekistan, as well as works by Russian painters that did not fit into the framework of socialist realism. Many canvases are particularly valuable exhibits that make up the "golden treasure" of the world collection of paintings. In addition, the collection contains unique examples of the material and artistic culture of Ancient Khorezm – terracotta, sculpture, artistic metal, jewelry, clothes and decorations reflecting the development of culture and art in Uzbekistan in different historical periods. Among them are ossuaries, sculptural images, fragments of wall paintings, various types of pottery, jewelry, examples of fire arms, as well as an extensive collection of silver and copper coins minted from the 3rd to the 18th centuries.
