THE CULTURAL LEGACY OF UZBEKISTAN IN MUSEUMS OF POLAND
Description
The volume is dedicated to the monuments of the artistic heritage of Uzbekistan, stored in two museums in Poland – the Museum of Asia and the Pacific in Warsaw and Seweryn Udziela Ethnographic Museum in Krakow.
The richest and most diverse collection from Uzbekistan is presented in the Museum of Asia and the Pacific. It grew through various donations and purchases.
So, some examples of ceramics were donated to the museum by the famous muralist Gregory Derviz. Arriving in Uzbekistan, he was so captivated by its ancient art that he began to develop his own collection. In the 1990s, he donated it to the Museum of Asia and the Pacific.
No less interesting are artistic metal items, examples of traditional clothing, suzanis (embroidery) and much more. The section representing the collection of the Museum of Asia and the Pacific also includes paintings and graphic works by Stanislav Pozanski and Andrzej Strumillo, which were inspired by the culture of Uzbekistan. A separate section of the volume is dedicated to the life and work of, as well as archival photographs made by, the famous 19th-20th-century researcher and documentarian Leon Barshchevsky. The material about Barshchevsky was prepared by his great-grandson, journalist Igor Stroyetsky.
