Description
This volume is the first part of the catalog dedicated to the collection of the Tashkent State Museum of History of Uzbekistan under the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It discusses numismatics and archaeological monuments. The collection of artifacts is presented in the album in a chronological order and covers periods from the Early Palaeolithic (1.5 million years BCE) to the 16th century AD inclusive. Among the exhibits are tools, cast bronze and iron objects, glass and wooden items, examples of ceramics from the archaeological sites of Afrasiab, Koktepa, Khalchayan, Dalverzintepa and Termez, stone, clay and ganch sculptures and wall paintings from the Buddhist temples of Fayaztepa and Karatepa. Among the mysterious masterpieces is an amulet in the form of two intertwined snakes, discovered during the digging of the Great Fergana Canal. Similar amulets are known in the cultures of the Middle East. It is still unclear how and when this amulet got to the territory of Uzbekistan.
